Aluminium Core PU Wheels
A cast polyurethane tread bonded to a precision-machined aluminium core — light, accurately true, and quick to shed heat. The wheel for AGV drive units, conveyor positions and equipment where every gram of rotating weight matters.
Product Overview
An aluminium core changes what a PU wheel is good at. It weighs a fraction of a cast iron hub, which matters anywhere the wheel starts and stops all day — AGV drive units above all, where less rotating mass means faster response and longer battery life. It machines to tight tolerance, so the wheel runs true and the bearing seat is exact. And aluminium pulls heat out of the tread, which protects the bond in continuous running.
The PU tread does the rest: grip, quiet running, floor protection and wear resistance. Bores come as a press-fit bearing seat or a keyed bore for direct shaft drive, with lightening holes and hub patterns machined to drawing.

What We Build
Diameters, widths, cores and bores are made to drawing. Send the dimensions or the wheel you are replacing and we confirm feasibility and price against them.
| Parameter | Option |
|---|---|
| Core | Precision-machined aluminium, lightening holes and hub pattern to drawing |
| Tread | Cast polyurethane bonded to the core, ground to final size |
| Bore | Press-fit bearing seat, or keyed bore for shaft drive |
| Extras | Steel cup sleeves and end caps where the bore needs wear protection |
| Colour | Yellow, red, brick red, custom colours |
| Quantity | One piece to production volumes |
Light, True, Cool
Light
Less rotating mass to start, stop and reverse. For AGV and AMR fleets that accelerate constantly, it shows up directly as response and runtime.
True
The core is machined after bonding, so the wheel runs round and the bearing seat lands exactly where it should — no wobble, no premature bearing wear.
Cool
Aluminium carries heat out of the tread, protecting the bond on wheels that run continuously rather than in short moves.
Where They Run
- AGV and AMR drive wheels and idler wheels
- Conveyor guide, drive and transfer positions
- Automatic doors, gates and moving equipment
- Test rigs and laboratory equipment
- Any position where wheel weight or running accuracy matters
Aluminium Core Wheel Questions
Aluminium core or cast iron core — how do I choose?
Choose aluminium for light weight, running accuracy and continuous duty; choose cast iron where brute load capacity matters more than mass — heavy forklift and pallet truck positions. Tell us the load and the duty and we recommend the core.
Does PU bond reliably to aluminium?
Yes, when the core is prepared properly. We machine the bonding surface, grit-blast and prime it, then cast the PU directly onto the metal. The preparation of the core — not the adhesive — is what decides the bond, and it is a controlled step here.
Can the lightening holes match our hub pattern?
Yes. Send the hole pattern, the bolt circle and the bore detail — or the mating part — and we machine the core to line up. It is a machining operation on a part we already make to order.
Are bearings fitted?
They can be. The bore is machined as a press-fit bearing seat to your bearing number, or as a keyed bore if the wheel drives off a shaft. Tell us which when you request the quote.
